26 December 2020 : Unplanned trips sometimes turns out to be exciting. Got an unexpected call from my cousin asking for a trip to Pobitora wildlife sanctuary. I was ready at the first thought, as I saw a brilliant chance of making it to my first wildlife photography experience ever.

We were not quite sure if the sanctuary will be kept open on Christmas hence we decided to start our journey next day before the dawn breaks. The whole night I couldn’t sleep because of the awaiting excitement. In the meanwhile I checked few wildlife photography videos on the internet to fetch some inspiration. I was feeling a bit down as I was not having the right kind of lens as per wildlife photography experts on YouTube. I had a 55 – 250 mm kit lens, which I thought may not be good enough. But still decided to give it a go.

We never wanted to miss the Elephant safari so we started from Guwahati at 4:30 in the morning.

Neither myself nor my cousin brother had driven to Pobitora before so we took help from Google for directions.

Google took us exactly to our desired destination on time. The drive was pretty smooth and enjoyable.

About Pabitara

Pabitara or Pobitora is situated at the Morigaon district of Assam, India. The forest is mainly famous for the single horned Rhinoceros conservation.

Apart from single horn Rhinos, Pobitora is home to some other species of animals such as Golden Jackals, Wild Boars, Wild Buffaloes and numerous birds.

Elephant safari

There are two timings for the Elephant safari. The first one starts at 6:00 am and the second one begins at 7:00am.

Tickets

Elephant safari costed us Rs. 2000/- for 4 of us including a child.

Pobitora wildlife sanctuary remains closed on Fridays.

It is advisable to carry breakfast items as it might be difficult to find suitable restaurants nearby in early morning.

Other attractions

There are few other attractions like boat ride in the Brahmaputra River, Jeep safari and few jungle resorts for camping.
