Tales behind the images.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Photo by Dr. Ujwala Brahmankar Newadkar.

Dr. Ujwala Brahmankar Newadkar says:

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across the country with much pomp and splendor. The celebration denotes the significance of the cycle of birth, life and death.
On the first day of the festival, the devotees mark the beginning with the placement of Lord Ganesha’s idol in their homes, public places and offices. On the last day, the devotees come out in processions carrying the idols of their beloved God and perform immersion. The concluding day of the 10-day festival is also popularly known as Anant Chaturdashi. As the word ‘visarjan’ implies, on this day immersion (‘visarjan’ means immersion) of Lord Ganapati’s idol takes place in a river, sea or water body. Ganesha, who is also known as the Lord of New Beginnings, is also worshipped as the Remover of Obstacles.

Every year, people wait with great anticipation to celebrate the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. And like always, we also hope that this year too, the remover of obstacles will shower us with his blessings and wipe out all the struggles from our lives. Hence this is one of the favourite clicks.

Nohkalikai waterfall

Dr. Nilanjan Ghosh says:

There are two P s in Photography. I have been told by many, that, one P is for patience and the other for Perseverance. That’s the recepie for an epic image. They are both very tough and often we give up. That epic image remains ellusive.

Nohkalikai waterfalls. It was our last stop of tour of Cherapunji, Meghalaya. We were shooting waterfalls . This is a beautiful spot to shoot sunsets . We reached there quite early to be prepared for the perfect moment. But to our disappointment the weather was very gloomy and the light , just awful. The waterfall was covered with thick clouds. The direction of wind was bringing in more cloud in front of the waterfall. We had around one hour in hand. We set up our gear and prayed for the impossible. But the situation got worse. It started drizzling .Out of frustration we packed our gear and took shelter.
After 10 minuites the rain stopped. The clouds started to thin.A few minutes later the outline of the waterfall was evident. We started racing for our equipment. It was quite dark.A tripod was a must.In front of our eyes the whole of the waterfall unveiled . Also more cloud was approaching. What a beautiful site! We were almost ready to press the shutter. But before we could , clouds again engulfed the waterfall. What a missed opportunity. No one but ourselves to blame. We were impatient and paid the price.
We prayed. We could see the sky opposite us turning golden. The golden hour started. But it was pathetic situation at the spot where we wanted to shoot. We waited again, patiently. Suddenly the wind speed picked up and this time from the opposite direction. The Nohkalikai waterfalls was visible with beautiful sky light behind it. Around 10minuites we had.We had the waterfall in all its glory. It was very difficult to control the excitement and concentrate on photography.Don’t know how this photographs will be to others. I simply love it. This will always be very close to my heart.

Moody woods

Rajat Malakar says:

I always struggle to get an excellent shot during daytime where as I am pretty comfortable at night. I have a few shots in blue or golden hour. But I really don’t have many shots in daytime. And I normally find, processing a decent woodland shot is not easy when I compare with Astro or other low light landscapes. This is one of such rare shot, it’s shot during daytime, just before the golden hour at Lepchajagat. Due to fog movement through the beautiful forest in Lepchajagat, in daytime this place becomes very dreamy. This was our last day at our October workshop 2021, so we did not expect to get such beautiful one from that day. Our last day of any workshop always meant for celebration and post processing. That day, we really got excellent light while we were trying some shots in the forest. Hence this is one of my favorite work.

This is one of my favourite photographs taken a few days back in Meghalaya, being it my shot as passed through the cherapunji road at night and suddenly attracted my eyes towards heavy lights far distance and it came out to be city lights of Bangladesh,so I stopped car and took the shot of Bangladesh. On play back what i saw was a surprise gifts for me ,as the the picture showed triple combination of light trails along the high way of Meghalaya and Milky way above and the city lights at Bangladesh.

🅿️ I N N A C L E S

This is one of my favorite shot from our recent Astro Landscape trip at Spiti Valley. We put a lot of effort that night. After dinner we checked out from the hotel, travelled 54 KM in that dangerous road of Spiti Valley, we shot whole night and after sunrise we started for the next destination. The driver initially did not agree to drive at night, since there were risk of land slide. Even, at the place, where we took this shot, was too narrow, we all were not able to stand there along with Tripod, this was that narrow a place.
After executing a huge risky and adventurous plan, all of us were too satisfied with the quality of shots we got. It felt like getting reward after putting honest effort… hence this is definetly one of my favourite shot.

The Golden Jackal

Aritro Bose says:

There are very few habitats left in Bengal where we can see these beautiful Golden Jackals. Once it was a very common species around the villages but for the habitat loss the numbers are decreasing so I was trying to get a good shot of Golden Jackal since 2020 when I got my first camera. During my wildlife trips I have seen it many times but everytime I failed to get a shot.

But finally it happened on 2022 when I was in a village roaming around for some common birds and suddenly it came and gave me an angry look and went away. At that time finally I got a dream shot.

Mother is the first teacher.

Saumi Biswas says:

Mother is the first teacher to her child. The initial teachings will remain embedded in the child’s mind & heart. Mother is universal. Her unconditional love towards her child is second to none. Every child may not be as privileged as others to attend school but the education imparted by the mother at home, be it academics or practical knowledge is very important for the future of the child.

The jump of joy.

Tamal Chowdhury says:

Some photos shall always remain close to heart. This one is special, since it reminds me of my childhood, playing the same game with my mates after school. With the technology rapidly engulfing the childhood of this generation, we don’t often see kids playing this game. What is it called?I forgot.Don’t want to know either. All I wanted is a shot of the same with a good sunset as the background. I roamed here and there but couldn’t manage one(since I’m not to keen to stage very often). Finally got my frame in 2018.There are things that could have been better in the photo, but my object to freeze a joyous moment has been fullfilled, and I would be happy with that.

Childhood.

Fajle Rabbe says:

It was friday, I was planning for street photography. After clicking some images i found these children. I asked them if I can capture their images. They agreed. I was verry happy. I took some images and showed them. They were so happy to see their image. This image is my most favorite capture. The photograph reminds me of my childhood. In this i see myself as a child.

Struggle of a photographer.

Subhabrata Das says:

A shot close to my heart! Shot with Redmi 7A smartphone on 25th December 2018 at Digha Mohona in a misty, cloudy morning.

The person in the middle of the frame is also a photographer who roams around Digha beaches to take family photographs and delivers them to tourists at hotel, where they are staying. This is his only source of earning but in today’s world almost everyone has a smartphone with good camera so these beach photographers are struggling for their livelihood.

Confession of the mind.

Akash Ghosh says:

This will be my true confession, I clicked it but I am still unable to explain this photograph properly because I feel some hidden past in his eyes which makes this particular photograph my favorite.

The Mother

Shyamal Das says:

I took the moment while she was face to face with the Durga Idol at Kumartuli, the biggest Idol making place in Asia. The mood and momentum attract me as well as her position in front of the Goddess Durga. I felt at that time that she just appear as mother Durga to me, it’s my choice and perception.

Leisure

Manas Pratim says:

It was earlier this year in the famous Golconda fort of Hyderabad when I, on a photographing spree, spotted these young guys, sitting on the walls of the fort, busy in their own worlds, oblivious of the fact that a photographer in me spotted a beautiful human pattern on the backdrop of a setting sun creating a classic silhouette.

Under the Umbrella

Partha Mukhopadhyay says:

That August afternoon, I was on the opposite side of the Kolkata Maidan, when suddenly a heavy downpour started. I observed a group of goats running from where they were grazing to find shelter from rain under the shade of some trees. I followed them with an umbrella in one hand and camera in the other. I was thoroughly drenched and I found myself under the same trees to save myself from the rain. The goats were clustered around me and I noticed how the particular two shown in my picture seemed to find the rain very enjoyable. They seemed very relaxed and were gazing at two people crossing the field under an umbrella, also looking equally relaxed. The sheer co-incidence not only amused me but also made me wonder what the goats were thinking when they looked at the two.

Spiralled away.

Manas Pratim says:

Crossed this spiral stairs perhaps a zillion times, with the hope of capturing it in my camera.. But the traffic throughout the day was a hindrance.. And it was not anywhere near my place to capture it in the wee hours of morning..

A few days back I visited my hometown on a train.. The train reached the station at about 4am.. I decided to walk from the station to this spot.. To give myself the time to experiment with the shot..

What I like about the image is the timing that allowed me to capture the spiral stairs with the crows that had too began its day with all their freshness
